Apple’s iPhone 12 rumoured to debut in October

It’s (almost) official: Apple’s highly anticipated new phone, the iPhone 12, might debut in October 2020. Typically, Apple’s release schedule sees it drop new products in September, however, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused worldwide delays on various product launches. This includes Qualcomm’s 5G chips, which Qualcomm has indicated will see a minor delay in production.

What comes next

One option for Apple might be to unveil the iPhone 12 in September and then formally launch it in October. A large part of the allure of any next-generation phone is its 5G capability, so logically any launch would need to wait until the 5G chips are available. Qualcomm did not indicate that a lengthy delay is expected – CFO Akash Palkhiwala has suggested that an October launch date for 5G phones is still on the table. So once again, October remains a strong possibility.

Rumours have also involved the potential release of updated or next-generation iPads in October. Although the iPad Pro was recently revamped, other contenders for a makeover include the iPad Air or iPad mini, each of which has some room for improvement.

What we know so far

Regardless of the status of the iPads, it is the iPhone 12 that remains in the public’s consciousness. Between the number of models, 5G connectivity, a new A14 Bionic processor, and a massive camera upgrade, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are shaping up to be the most significant change to the phone scene in a long time. Currently, we are expecting four different models of varying sizes and capabilities. Based on images and information released so far, it also appears that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will be slim and compact, with a design reminiscent of the popular iPhone 5.

What it costs

On the price front, leaks are emerging every day. The one thing that we know for sure is that they won’t be cheap. The iPhone 12 (the most basic model) is projected to cost $699, the 12 Max 5G is projected at $799, the 12 Pro would be $1049, and the 12 Pro Max would be $1149. These are all the starting prices, meaning the least available storage.

As we approach the autumn, we can only wait to see if the leaks will be confirmed. Read all the latest news on our website.
