iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Pro deals
The iPhone 14 is here, and with it brings a small number of updates. Think of it as 'evolution' rather than 'revolution - as it has received some subtle but significant updates to its cameras, such as improved low light photo quality.
While previous generations of iPhone were already exceptional in this area, Apple promises even greater improvement with a larger f/1.8 aperture, sensor shift stablisation, and earlier Deep Fusion processing stages. Look out Samsung!
The iPhone 14 Pro also gets some extra assistance in the camera department with a second telephoto lens. While both primary cameras still boast 12-megapixels each, their telephoto lens has been upgraded to an impressive f/2.4.
It may not be quite as good as its older sibling's telephoto lens on the iPhone 13 Pro, it still provides photographers with some flexibility and extra range.
iPhone 13 & iPhone 13 Mini: Best contracts
Apple usually updates an iPhone with either a major design update or significant technology advancements.
While the iPhone 13 doesn't follow that trend - it still has the same design, display and processor as last year - there are some nice improvements like an upgraded camera, faster chip, and additional safety measures.
Apple fans always look forward to the release of a new iPhone, and this year's model is no different. The iPhone 13 Pro Max stands as the only model in this year's range that looks significantly different than its predecessor - featuring Dynamic Island, Apple's take on always-on display tech, as well as an improved 48MP rear camera.
iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro: Cheapest contracts
The iPhone 12 Mini is the smallest 'full fat' iPhone for a while, and it's been a runaway success. Partly due to its small size but more than likely because it's a lot cheaper than its bigger brothers.
The iPhone 12 mini offers superior screen performance to its larger siblings, offering 476ppi resolution compared to 460ppi on larger models. Plus, it supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 standards with a higher peak brightness rating too.
Camera quality for the 12 mini is also impressive, having been compared to that of the Google Pixel 6. We found it takes sharper and more detailed photos even in low light conditions compared to its rival.
It also proved impressively reliable in video tests, providing around 15 percent battery life from a two-hour film. That's slightly less than the iPhone 12 Pro models but still an impressive result when compared with the smaller iPhone SE that had issues with power efficiency.
The iPhone 12 mini the same magnetic wireless MagSafe charging system as its smaller siblings, featuring a disk that snaps to the back with magnets for faster wireless charging speeds than using a wired USB-C port.

iPhone 11 Pro: Which contract is best?
Compare monthly prices on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max now, even with all these chip shortages, the iPhone 11 still has decent stock levels across the UK.
No need to wait, the iPhone 11 is here and orders are being taken from all the largest UK networks like Vodafone, Three, O2 and many more.
The cheapest contract we've found is actually with Three, starting from just £17.99 a month for the 'basic' iPhone 11 with 128GB of storage.
iPhone 11: Design & Screen
On the front, the iPhone 11 still carries a 6.1-inch display with the familiar Retina image sharpness of 326 pixels per inch (resolution: 1792x828 pixels). The frame is - unlike the Pro models - not made of stainless steel, but of aluminum. Saying that, at 194 grams, it's not a lightweight so you're not exactly saving much in terms of the handfeel either.
As usual, Apple uses the term "Retina" or "Liquid Retina" display for screen technology - or what other manufacturers call now OLED. There is no OLED here though in the standard 11. For comparison, the iPhone 11 Pro gets a 5.8-inch OLED screen, the iPhone 11 Pro Max a 6.5-inch OLED screen.
The brightness of these screens is about 625 candelas per square metre; the Pro models radiate with 800 candelas so much stronger and even have a particularly bright mode of 1,200 candelas for high-contrast content. Again, the stripped-back standard 11 model lacks some significant functions.
In our hands-on practice test, the somewhat lower brightness compared to the Pro models was quite visible. The lower contrast, however, is not noticeable at cursory viewing: because the colours are very strong.
Plus, the sharpness is clearly higher with the Pro models with 458 ppi, but in the practice test it was absolutely sufficient for most users. We didn't even see any coarse pixels showing, so for most users to be totally honest the standard iPhone 11's screen should be fine.
iPhone X, iPhone XS
In 2018, Apple launched three new smartphones: these successor models of the iPhone X have some innovations and improvements over the predecessor (as is to be expected).
Most noticeable is that the size has changed: the formerly largest iPhone (X at 5.8 inches) is now pretty much the smallest generation of the new iPhones...

iPhone XS Max deals
Similar to iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max differ only slightly, mostly really in terms of their size and battery life.
With a screen size of 5.8 inches, the iPhone XS is one of the larger smartphones currently available, matching the size of its predecessor the X.
Only the iPhone XS Max is larger: The iPhone XS Max is the largest phone with a 6.5-inch screen diagonal that Apple has ever brought to the market. The two flagships of Apple feature 458 ppi - an even better display than the iPhone X.
Further changes to the previous model:
- Power supply: up to 30 minutes (XS) or 1.5 hours (XS Max)
- Longer battery life than the iPhone X.
- New CPU generation: the A12 Bionic processor is even faster
- Face recognition: very fast Face ID
- Camera: Smart HDR provides better images in backlight
About iPhone cameras
The superior camera quality of the Apple iPhone contributed essentially to the success that it had in earlier years, replacing older brands like Nokia. All models that came out either during the 2017 or 2018 models feature a 12 megapixel camera that captures 4K and 1080p video at 30 or 60 frames per second (FPS).
The iPhone 8 Plus and the X and XS models are equipped with optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. In the iPhone 8, however, there is only one main camera with digital zoom, while the iPhone XR has a fivefold optical zoom.
