Galaxy S20 FE Contract Deals – How To Find Them

Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition or "FE" is a cheaper version of the full-fat S20, and monthly contract prices start at around £18 a month for a 24-month plan. Available now on all UK networks and also as a Sim-Free phone.

In brief, the S20 FE comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display and a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2400 pixels. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is powered by an Exynos 990 chipset and packs 6GB/8GB of RAM. The device runs Android 11 (or 12 if you upgrade it) and features a 12-megapixel primary camera on the rear. So far, so good, but is it worth buying now?

This is a 4G phone though - if you want 5G then there is the Galaxy S20 FE 5G too.

Whether you are looking for a new mobile phone to upgrade your current device or you want to try out a model that has been praised by many, there are a few things you should look for in a phone.

A good phone should have a good camera, a great display, and a long battery life. This review will give you an idea of what to look for in a new phone.

Galaxy S20 FE - Price in the UK

Among the top mid-range phones in the market, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE offers solid value. It offers impressive cameras, solid performance, and excellent battery life, making it a great option for anyone looking for a flagship smartphone at a mid-range price.

In the UK, the Galaxy S20 FE 4G is now available for £399 at most stores, including John Lewis and Argos.

Quick facts

The Galaxy S20 FE features a 6.5-inch display, which is larger than the standard Galaxy S20's 5.5-inch display. This is great for watching videos and games, as well as browsing the web. It also supports video out when connected to a display via an HDMI adapter.

The S20 FE 4G is powered by Qualcomm's latest high-end chipset, the Snapdragon 865. The S20 FE is also waterproof to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. It also features a telephoto camera with optical zoom. It is the only smartphone in this price range to offer such features.

The Galaxy S20 FE also offers solid software support and features like 5G and wireless charging. The FE also has expandable storage and a 6.5-inch display. In addition, it features three cameras on the back, one of which is a telephoto camera with optical zoom.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is a great choice if you're looking for a smartphone that is easy to use, has decent cameras, and has a great display. It also comes with an affordable plastic design, which is a big win for consumers who don't want to pay for a premium glass finish. It also runs Android 12 out of the box, which is a nice bonus, but isn't the latest version now.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has a few notable flaws, but it's still a solid smartphone at a great price. With a launch price under £600, the FE was quite expensive when it came out. Having dropped in price significantly, it's now a good choice for anyone looking for a flagship smartphone that won't break the bank.

Display - Is it any good?

Besides its 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has other impressive specs. It sports an advanced chipset, a streamlined design, and impressive cameras. This phone also offers hyper-fast connectivity and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

As per above, the display of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is a 6.5-inch OLED display. It has a pixel density of 2.625 xxhdpi and 679 nits of brightness. However, it is flat and it can't be cranked up to a Quad HD+ resolution. The resulting picture is bright, sharp, and precise.

The Galaxy S20 FE also has three great cameras. These include a 32MP camera on the front and a trio of rear lenses. The S20 FE also includes a snazzy, AI-powered camera.

Does it feel 'cheap'?

Not really. The rear panel is made from plastic. This is not something that consumers expect in high-end phones. Nevertheless, it's sturdy and durable. It also features a frosted paint.

It also sports a Super AMOLED Infinity-O display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy S20 FE also has a 4,500mAh battery. This battery will last you up to a day with moderate use.

The S20 FE also has the latest high-end chipset from Qualcomm. It's the Snapdragon 865. This is the same chipset that powers the Galaxy S22 series. In the UK, it's also used in the Galaxy S21 FE.

The S20 FE also has a textured haze effect that reduces fingerprints. It also has expandable storage. This includes a microSD card. However, the actual storage may vary depending on the pre-installed software.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE isn't as premium as its pricier brethren. However, the S20 FE offers a lot of great features at a relatively affordable price. More on that below.

Galaxy S20 FE Review: Camera

During the Galaxy S20's release last week, Samsung introduced some new camera features. These include Night mode, a Single Take mode, and Hyperlapse.

The new Galaxy S20 FE has three cameras on the back. There's the main camera, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera. Each of these cameras has its own unique features. The telephoto camera is great for taking close-up photos, but the ultrawide camera squeezes in twice the scene that the main camera can capture.

The ultrawide camera covers a wider field of view than the main camera, but it loses colour saturation at sunset. The camera also has no autofocus, so you'll have to manually focus. Using the zoom picker makes it easy to switch between the three lenses.

Is the camera system slow?

The main camera on the Galaxy S20 FE records 4K videos at 60fps. While the video quality isn't as good as it is on the non-FE Galaxy S20, the dynamic range is great.

In low light, the Galaxy FE has better detail than the Galaxy S20+. The camera's noise reduction is aggressive, so there's less noise. The camera also has an effective background blur. However, the camera is slow to start. This can cause you to miss shots.

The Galaxy S20 FE's main camera also records 4K at 30fps. It has a manual shutter speed of 30 seconds. This makes it useful for smooth pans. However, it doesn't have a dedicated Director's View feature. It also lacks an option to select the highest possible exposure time in Night mode.

The Galaxy S20 FE is an affordable smartphone that offers a variety of great cameras. It also has decent software and security support. It offers great battery life and is compatible with 5G.

Battery life - How long will it go for?

Despite its price, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition has, according to various sources, an impressive battery life. Featuring a 4,500mAh battery, the FE is designed to last for nearly nine hours on a charge. It also supports fast wired charging up to 25W.

Samsung also supports Wireless Power Share, which allows you to charge another device without recharging your own phone. The Galaxy S20 FE has a microSD slot, so you can add a lot of storage to the device without a second charger.

The Galaxy S20 FE features a high-end display and a Snapdragon 865 processor. It also has three excellent cameras. The front camera has a 32-megapixel sensor, while the back camera has a triple lens with 3x optical zoom. Besides the cameras, the Galaxy S20 FE offers decent software support and security.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is available from around £25 a month on contract on O2. It comes in three storage options, 128GB, 512GB, and 1TB. It was initially released in October 2020. The price is £599 at launch but has since dropped to around £399 on Sim-free. If you prefer a contract, then all of the main UK networks are stocking this phone, including Virgin Media, BT Mobile, EE and Vodafone.

Performance & Conclusion

Despite being nearly two years old at the time of writing, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is still a good option if you're in the market for a high-end phone.

But, as with anything, it has some issues to be aware of. It has a slow start, and it can hang when running heavy apps in split-screen mode. Also, the display has a lower resolution than the regular Galaxy S20.

It's got a powerful processor, a great screen, and a good camera, all for less than £400 if you go for Sim-Free. Or, if you prefer a monthly contract price, then prices are currently sitting around the £25 a month mark for a 24-month plan. It's also one of the most versatile phones you can get for this price and no iPhone comes near in terms of price and features. (If I had to make a direct comparison, I'd say the iPhone 11 Pro is nearest...).

As above, the Galaxy S20 FE's camera is good but this is where ther are some limitations. It's slow to open, which means you could miss a shot. It also has a strong tendency to lift shadows. It prefers warm tones as many reviewers note. It also has a tendency to lag when running heavy apps in split screen view.

Overalll, we'd give it 8/10.
