  2. iPhone 11 Pro - Design
  3. iPhone 11 Pro - Display
  4. Under the bonnet
  5. iPhone 11 - Cameras
  6. iPhone 11 Pro costs in the UK
  7. Verdict on iPhone 11 Pro

You've heard all the adjectives - amazing, groundbreaking and others, Apple hasn't reinvented the wheel here, and certainly not when it comes to the naming scheme: the new models are called, recap:

  1. iPhone 11
  2. iPhone 11 Pro, and
  3. iPhone 11 Pro Max

Background to iPhone 11

Apple's keynote presentation was accompanied by massive applause from the numerous Apple fans on site.

Of all the Apple phones, these being the newest generation of course have the best performance, the best display and the best equipment - despite that, this latest launch of iPhones has meant that not everyone is satisfied with the rather meagre improvements when compared to the previous models such as the wonderful iPhone XS.

And it has left owners of the last generation of iPhone rightly ask the question: is the upgrade to the next one worth it? Is it worth the price?

Let's exclude Apple's marketing superlatives, and look at the new facts and figures, and then tell you if you need to upgrade now, or wait:

iPhone 11 Pro - Design

If you look at the new iPhone 11 range from the outside and compare them with their respective predecessors, you will notice that it is not always recognisable by their looks. To be frank, particularly when looking from the front, the new iPhone doesn't look much different in terms of design at all as noted by this review.

The displays are the same size and have the same resolution as last year, the notch is still present (boo!) and the same size as before and the display edges, especially in the "cheap model", the iPhone 11, have not gotten smaller.

A difference in the design is however more apparent if you flip it over, and look at the rear face - each of the three iPhone 11 models now has in the upper left corner a square camera module with rounded corners.

Here sit in the expensive iPhone models - now three instead of two camera lenses.

In addition, new colours have been launched by the California tech giant, and the Apple logo has now moved into the middle of the device, which is reminiscent of the design of the iPod Touch. Whether the new design of the iPhone now looks any better than that of the 2018 models, is a matter of personal taste.

iPhone 11 Pro - Display

In terms of displays, Apple is usually at the forefront. Here only the big competitors like Samsung can keep up. (Not many people know that the screens on Apple devices have nearly all  been made by the South Korean tech giant).

Nevertheless, as good as the screen is, here you will find again a lot of similarities to the previous models.

So the screen size itself has been kept the same for all three iPhone 11 models, as well as the resolution. In addition, the cheaper iPhone 11 comes again with LCD instead of OLED, which obviously reduces the price but also the quality somewhat.

OnePlus the Chinese competitor offers a similarly decent screen quality on their 7 Pro model, but other than that, Apple is the leader.

Under the bonnet

As usual, Apple also gives us a slight update to the processor in its iPhone models. Thus, the Apple A12 Bionic has now been replaced by the Apple A13 Bionic in the '11' range, and according to Apple anyway, this will again offer  a significant leap in computing and graphics performance over its predecessor.

So both the CPU and the GPU is a good deal better performing than the last generation, which is great, but how much of a benefit does that really offer to the average user?

After all, the performance of the 2018 iPhone "XS" range was, and still is, excellent.

So the Apple A12 Bionic from the previous models such as the iPhone XS Max had in benchmark tests shown itself to be the fastest chip out there. The one thing we have noticed online from other reviews and videos, is that the real performance boost from the A13 is noticed by users, if at all, in very complex tasks, such as the rendering of videos and so on.

iPhone 11 Pro - Cameras

Probably the biggest focal point of the new iPhone models, at least in the run up to the launch, lies in the new camera setup. So all three iPhone 11 models now all come with an ultra-wide-angle lens, with the cheapest model now coming equipped with two camera lenses and the expensive models have three camera lenses.

In addition, a new night mode has been added, which automatically activates when needed.

What is considered an innovation by Apple fans, has in fact long been present in the world of Android  smartphones: up to five camera lenses, ultra-wide-angle cameras and a night mode are already available in almost all high-end competitors such as the OnePlus 7 Pro or the Galaxy S10 Plus.

Nevertheless, the new camera lens with 120 degree wide capture angle has never been previously installed in any other iPhone. The quality of the camera lenses from the older iPhone models was by no means bad, and frankly there comes a point where we can go too far: ultimately, the next upgrade to photo quality would not be a new phone, but come from an SLR camera!

iPhone 11 Pro cost in the UK

The iPhone 11 Pro on pay monthly contract starts at £17 a month, with a large upfront payment needed.

If you prefer to spend more per month with less upfront then use the sliders above.

Foned verdict on the iPhone 11 Pro

If you want to experience the latest camera technology in an iPhone, then you should consider getting one from the newer iPhone 13 Pro range - while the camera system here is good, it's been vastly improved in newer models.

However there are some perks to the 11 range too. These are the first Apple smartphones with a wide-angle lens, and selfie fans will also get their money's worth with the new "Slowfie" feature.

If you're happy with a refurbished phone that isn't brand new, then there are many decent deals. However it may be worth considering getting the iPhone SE 2022 instead on contract - you may be surpised at how cheap it is.

FAQs for Apple iPhone 11 Pro Deals

iPhone 11 Pro - worth it or not?

You're probably deciding if you should opt for the normal, cheaper iPhone 11, or the 11 Pro. Going for the '11 Pro' does have some huge benefits, but of course it costs a bit more. Generally speaking the iPhone 11 Pro has slightly better reviews, mainly due to the improved screen vs the regular '11'.

Which colours are available in the UK?

On the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple have pushed the boat out and given you a larger choice of colours than you might expect, although the regular 'iPhone 11' has more colours overall. The current colours are: Gold, Midnight Green, Grey and Silver.

How much is the iPhone 11 Pro per month?

The cheapest price is £15 a month but you're going to have to stump up quite a large chunk of money on the upfront fee. If you're not comfortable with that, then you can get a much better deal (in our opinion) by paying around £35 a month.

Is the iPhone 11 Pro a good phone still?

Damn, what a question! It's literally one of, if not the best iPhone models ever. And the reviews agree (not just our review but all of them). The iPhone 11 Pro Max is a costly upgrade and only really for the power users with deep pockets; the normal 11 Pro strikes the best middle ground.

iPhone 11 Pro deals: How long does delivery take?

Is SIM Only better for iPhone 11 Pro?

Generally speaking, SIM Only is cheaper but you don't have the benefit of paying monthly for your handset like the Apple iPhone 11 Pro, so it only really makes financial sense if you are in the fortunate position to be able to buy the handset outright first. Yes, it works out cheaper overall if you can do that, at least nearly always – but it is really a personal preference. Find out more about SIM Only Deals here

Not sure which mobile network to go for?

Foned completely gets it, it's not easy trying to understand the differences of each mobile network operator. Is o2 any better than Vodafone for this smartphone, when it comes to coverage? Or worse? It's a real minefield. Another example, which is better? A Apple iPhone 11 Pro ee contract or a Apple iPhone 11 Pro Tesco Mobile contract?

The reality is, it can make a huge difference to your satifaction with the overall product. Who wants to have cruddy download speeds? But never fear – Foned is here. Don't forget to check our latest Blog posts below.

Before you decide to buy a contract or handset, it's important to know if you'll get a signal. Who wants to be walking around into mobile network's blackholes?! After all, ordering your brand new Apple iPhone 11 Pro contract only to find you can't use your data (never mind going over the allowance!) in your own house will be pretty not cool.

A simple website a number of our visitors have used is Open Signal which maps signals across all major mobile networks within the UK.

So which UK network has the best signal?

According to Which?, in their recent research, they focused on 4G performance and found that EE offered the fastest average 4G download speeds of the four networks (EE, O2, Three and Vodafone). While EE customers enjoyed average 4G download speeds of 29Mbps, those using the O2 network had to put up with an average speed of just 15.1Mbps.

EE's network was also at the top of the list when it came to the availability of its 4G signal, with customers able to access it 78.5% of the time. Customers with Three had the poorest access to a 4G signal - they were able to access it just 57.1% of the time – that's only just more than half the time, 24/7!
