iPhone XS Contract Deals – How To Find Them

Apple's iPhone Xs can be summed up in one fairly easy sentence: it’s basically the same phone as the very expensive Apple iPhone Xs Max, but with a smaller screen and a smaller battery to reduce the cost a little. It's still not cheap though - and the lineup is becoming a little confusing. The iPhone Xr and the X are also available on contract - so which one to go for? Read the Foned review to find out...

What sets the Apple iPhone Xs apart?

According to our reviewer, the iPhone Xs is one of Apple's best handsets yet - although it does come at a price.More on that later.

Let's start the review by looking closer at the screen. It is equipped with a 5.8-inch OLED display, which should provide with equipment features such as HDR 10, Dolby Vision and True Tone for a particularly successful image reproduction. The screen resolution of 2436 × 1125 pixels gives this model a real edge. By comparison, the predecessors iPhone 7 and 8 offered only 4.7 inches or 1334 × 750 pixels. With 458 ppi, the pixel density is now much higher.

No other Apple device currently has more to offer in this area,  except perhaps the iPhone Xs Max. Also on the robustness: Apple has spent a lot of time here. The screen is scratch resistant and grease repellent. According to IP68 standard, the Xs can be immersed in 2m deep water for up to 30 minutes.

How many cameras?

The dual camera of the iPhone Xs has a resolution of 12 megapixels (MP) on the back and 7 MP in the front. Capture detailed, high-definition images with technologies like Smart HDR and a portrait mode with depth control. The latter allows you to adjust the depth of field even after the image acquisition and thus to achieve the trendy bokeh effect.

The recording of videos is possible with a frame rate of up to 60 fps. The camera equipment also provides the basis for face recognition. Via Face ID you can unlock the iPhone Xs and log in to different apps and accounts without a regular password.

What's under the hood?

The Apple A12 Bionic processor significantly affects the computing power. With 6 cores, it delivers a top performance. It has 4 GB of RAM available and is controlled by the iOS 12 operating system.

iPhones usually require fewer processor cores than comparable models. That's why they are no less powerful. Instead, the software allocates calculation steps more purposefully and uses potential more efficiently. Both the operating system and programs for iOS are also considered very secure.

Crystal clear display

The above-average display has a diagonal of 5.8inch and the large phablet is therefore first-class for those who value clarity:  Details, web pages or multimedia content can be captured optimally. You can expect very good Full HD picture quality for the reproduction of your pictures, videos and games thanks to the detailed sharp resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels which is of course Retina ready.

With the built-in mobile camera you can take pictures like never before. The iPhone XS is equipped with a total of 2 cameras. The resolution of the main camera of 12 MP produces detailed, high-resolution images, which are also effective on printouts and screens in large format.

However, the generated footage needs a bit more space. With the help of the optical image stabilizer you have further possibilities to influence the image result. The video function can record movies in 4K quality.

7 Megapixels, or 20?

Amazingly crisp self-portraits and a wonderful picture with video telephone calls promises the 7-megapixel front camera.

Apple iPhones have different connections or transmission options.Headset or headset connect to the iPhone XS exclusively via the ligthing interface or Bluetooth. Also for the power supply and for the transmission of data you use the in-house Lightning interface.

An superfast Internet connection can be established in the home thanks to the WLAN-ac interface as well as on the go via the extra-fast 4G mobile radio standard. You can be reached at the same time on 2 numbers at the same time, and due to dual SIM technology, two SIM cards can be used by different network operators.

Further equipment completes the iPhone XS as a great package:- reliable and long phone calls with a high talk time of 20 hours. Simple wireless charging offers the Qi technology of the iPhone XS. This will save you desk and wire clutter.

However note that there is NO fast charger included in the box, for some reason. This is a small negative, more of an annoyance given the price of the handset. Also, our reviewer reckons that there is no real reason to upgrade from a normal iPhone X to this, the design is no different, and there are only a handful of improvements. Most users will stay with the iPhone X and await the iPhone 11.

Foned verdict: iPhone Xs:

  • Liquid resistant & dustproof, tougher than ever
  • Screen very clear thanks to expansive 5.8-inch display
  • Display with Full HD Retina resolution
  • Dual sim optional
  • Optical image stabiliser and 12 megapixel camera produce high-resolution photos
  • One of the best iPhones ever made

How much does iPhone Xs cost per month?

Looking at the table above, the iPhone Xs is not the cheapest iPhone - if you are on a more restricted budget perhaps consider the iPhone Xr which is about £200 cheaper - but has less features, natually.

Is SIM Only better for iPhone XS?

Generally speaking, SIM Only is cheaper but you don't have the benefit of paying monthly for your handset like the Apple iPhone XS, so it only really makes financial sense if you are in the fortunate position to be able to buy the handset outright first. Yes, it works out cheaper overall if you can do that, at least nearly always – but it is really a personal preference. Find out more about SIM Only Deals here

Not sure which mobile network to go for?

Foned completely gets it, it's not easy trying to understand the differences of each mobile network operator. Is o2 any better than Vodafone for this smartphone, when it comes to coverage? Or worse? It's a real minefield. Another example, which is better? A Apple iPhone XS ee contract or a Apple iPhone XS Tesco Mobile contract?

The reality is, it can make a huge difference to your satifaction with the overall product. Who wants to have cruddy download speeds? But never fear – Foned is here. Don't forget to check our latest Blog posts below.

Before you decide to buy a contract or handset, it's important to know if you'll get a signal. Who wants to be walking around into mobile network's blackholes?! After all, ordering your brand new Apple iPhone XS contract only to find you can't use your data (never mind going over the allowance!) in your own house will be pretty not cool.

A simple website a number of our visitors have used is Open Signal which maps signals across all major mobile networks within the UK.

So which UK network has the best signal?

According to Which?, in their recent research, they focused on 4G performance and found that EE offered the fastest average 4G download speeds of the four networks (EE, O2, Three and Vodafone). While EE customers enjoyed average 4G download speeds of 29Mbps, those using the O2 network had to put up with an average speed of just 15.1Mbps.

EE's network was also at the top of the list when it came to the availability of its 4G signal, with customers able to access it 78.5% of the time. Customers with Three had the poorest access to a 4G signal - they were able to access it just 57.1% of the time – that's only just more than half the time, 24/7!
