Samsung Galaxy S20 FE vs iPhone 12: which one to buy?

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has grabbed plenty of positive headlines since its launch, and while Android enthusiasts are keen to pit it against another recently launched Android rival, such as the Google Pixel 5, the biggest and perhaps the most important competitor is the iPhone 12. Here, we’ve compared some features to see how they stack up against each other.

Camera (Photos)

The iPhone 12 has a dual-camera system, with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP f/ 1.6 main camera. This is impressive, however, the S20 FE has an 8MP zoom lens which gives the Samsung that edge which you’re looking for in a camera. If you’re someone who isn’t picky when it comes to camera specs, all you need is good lighting and a personal preference as to which camera you prefer.

Design and feel

The iPhone 12 uses something called ‘Ceramic Glass’, meaning that its glass panel is infused with pieces of ceramic and Apple say that this makes it four-times harder and shatter-resistant than previous iPhone panels. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE applies Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 which is said to not be the finest Corning has got to offer but is a slight improvement from past phones. The back of the FE is plastic while the iPhone’s is a matte feeling glass panel so it’s not really a hard decision to see which one is best there. The in-hand feel leans more towards the Samsung as the curved edges make it a more comfortable fit whereas the iPhone 12 has sharp edges and a boxy design.

Display

Both phones have incredibly impressive OLED panels and though Samsung’s display refreshes twice as quickly, the actual UI fluidity isn’t as far-flung as you might think. The iPhone is still flowing despite its ‘outdated’ 60Hz and yes, the FE’s animations appear faster and zippier, but it’s hard to find a fault with the iPhone 12’s fluidity and animations.
