Galaxy S20 5G Contract Deals – How To Find Them
Samsung presents its new smartphone flagship - the shiny, dazzling and brilliant Galaxy S20 5G. This might be THE best 5G phone to buy today - note that the regular (cheaper) Galaxy S20 doesn't have 5G, so make sure that you buy the correct version.
Read on to find out if the S20 is as good as the S10 range, and which (if any) you should plump for...

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G - Features
- 6.2-inch display with WQHD + resolution
- Main camera with 8K video
- Dolby Atmos Stereo Speakers
- 5G ready (obviously!)
As the new flagship of the Galaxy S series, the S20 5G continues the design themes of its predecessor the Galaxy S10. The new Infinity-O display offers even narrower edges on the top and bottom edges, which emphasises the slim, strongly rounded side line even more.
Compared to the more expensive Galaxy S20 Plus and S20 Ultra 5G, the standard model has the smallest display. It measures 6.2 inches (15.83 cm) on the diagonal and has an elongated, video ready aspect ratio of 20: 9.
So in fact Samsung has launched no less than FOUR models this time round, they are to re-cap:
- Galaxy S20
- Galaxy S20 5G (this one)
- Galaxy S20+ 5G
- Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G
In other words there are three different 5G models to pick from. This one we're reviewing here is the cheapest of them, let's clarify what the main differences are.
With its WQHD+ resolution of 3200 × 1440 pixels, the Dynamic Amoled touchscreen promises sharp and high-contrast image reproduction, and since the fast frame rate of 120Hz is available here then it should allow very smooth scrolling and authentic gaming experiences.
The smartphone supports video formats with a larger HDR10+ contrast range so that you can enjoy films even more intensely. In addition, the stereo speakers optimised by AKG should be able to reproduce Dolby Atmos sound.
Selfie camera for 4K videos
The 10 megapixel front camera is again not hidden behind a classic notch design, which we like. Instead, it is placed in the middle of the upper edge of the display and, together with a fingerprint sensor, is protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla 6 glass (the latest version). By comparison the newly launched Galaxy A71 only has Gorilla Glass 3.
In addition to an auto HDR mode, you can use 4K video - for clarify that offers up to 60 frames per second. Like the front, the back is coated with solid Gorilla 6 glass.
Main camera - whopping 64 megapixel
Compared to the other more expensive S20 variants, the standard 5G version is limited to a rear camera with only 3 lenses.
The main camera with wide-angle optics and optical image stabiliser resolves to a total of 12 megapixels and the sensor is comparatively large with a diagonal measurement/ratio of 1 / 1.76 inches, which promises noise-free results in low light.
The ultra-wide-angle module also has the same resolution, and the third lens in the bundle is an image-stabilised telephoto lens with a 3x hybrid optical zoom and a resolution of 64 megapixels. Due to its high resolution, the 3x magnification should be lossless, but we haven't tested this yet.
In addition, the S20 5G comes with a 30x digital zoom function, and the 8K video mode should set new quality standards: It films with a maximum of 30 frames per second and uses an action cam video stabilisation for blurred shots.
S20 5G: Top-class performance
A powerful Exynos 990 processor works really well, and comes with IP68 waterproof housing. Together with 8GB of RAM, even complex applications should run without annoying interruptions. But then you would expect that, for a flagship.
The question remains: Do you need to buy the Ultra or Plus version - or is the baseline S20 fine enough for most users? We'd say so, unless you want 5G.
Galaxy S20 5G Price in UK
The Galaxy S20 5G launches at an RRP of £999 in the UK. It's not cheap, but then it's a fully featured smartphone and the flagship. That's a £100 premium over the non-5G version - which isn't quite as large as the premium that used to be charged not too long ago for 5G devices...
Here at Foned we expect the prices to fall after a few months, although if opting for paying monthly you can already get it from £22 a month on a 36 month contract.
If you're looking for something cheaper then consider the new Galaxy A51 on pay monthly.
Verdict - Galaxy S20 5G
This is *the* Samsung 5G flagship phone, and it oozes quality. It might not be as bulky or feature-rich as the others in the S20 range but if you must have a 5G phone then this one should be very high to anyone's shopping list.
The complete lack of 5G in the iPhone range so far means that if you're after a high-end, must have 5G ready phone, then the S20 is probably the one you have been looking for. If you live in a big city like London then you can already be enjoying all of what 5G offers - check your coverage here.
If however you lived in a regular small town then it's unlikely that 5G will be coming to you anytime soon sadly. There's no point in buying the 5G model if you can't use it - stick to the S20 4G here.
Anyway, onto the operating system (OS) and under the bonnet: here Samsung have added an internal memory of 128 GB available for videos, photos, music and apps. In the event that you want to expand it to a maximum of 1TB, a micro SD slot for powerful micro SDXC cards is integrated.
In addition, there is another compartment for dual SIM card operation. if needed...
In contrast to the larger S20 sister models, the standard 5G model with 4000 mAh battery has the smallest, permanently installed battery - the result is at 164g, it is the lightest S20. Fast charging via a 45W power supply should also be possible, as expected.
