Galaxy A70 Contract Deals – How To Find Them

With the Galaxy A70,  Samsung complements the "upper middle" class segment of the Galaxy A series. The rather long smartphone offers with it a brilliant OLED display and an extra-large battery - some serious perks to accompany you reliably in everyday life.

Samsung Galaxy A70 - facts you need to know:

  • Display with extra wide 20: 9 aspect ratio for videos
  • Optimisation of images by clever AI
  • 4500 mAh battery with convenient fast charge function

The Galaxy A70 was the top of the mid-range A-series until it was replaced by the  Galaxy A80. There's no news on the A90 yet - it seems to be a few months off at least. So is the A70 still worth buying on contract - or should you opt for the newer and more expensive A80? Let's find out...

A wonderful screen

The A70 has a huge 6.7-inch OLED display, which displays Full HD Plus quality - a total of 2400 × 1080 pixels. In order to use as much as possible the entire surface for the touch screen, the front camera is integrated with a stunning 32-megapixel front camera on the upper edge of the display.

As for the technical achievements of the Galaxy A70’s FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080) screen, I found that it was capable of producing 100% of the sRGB colour gamut in the phone’s “Natural” display setting, according to our in-house display colorimeter. An average Delta E of 2.25 is very impressive for a phone this cheap, although I did notice some slight oversaturation in light and dark green tones. Rest assured all other colours looked as good as can be, with particularly vibrant red tones and a deep, inky-looking black.

The more expensive Galaxy S10 models have also added the fingerprint sensor built into the display, so if you really want that function then you'll need to spend (even) more on the S range.

In terms of performance, the A70 phone is surprisingly solid. Inside, a Qualcomm octa-core processor is working, with its 2GHz clocking and a 6GB memory for proper tempo. For apps and own files, an internal 128GB memory is more than sufficient.

We first saw this mid-range chipset powering the Vivo V15 Pro earlier this year, although, bizarrely, the cheaper Galaxy A50 uses the Samsung-made Exynos 9610 processor, which is clocked slightly higher.

Almost-perfect captures

Photos and videos are created with a triple camera on the back. The wide-angle module captures the scenery well with an angle of view of 78 ° and a decent resolution of 32 megapixels. For group photos in confined spaces, the ultra wide-angle lens with a generous 123-degree angle is recommended.

However, given the  somewhat poor 8 megapixel resolution, it only promises snapshot quality. The third optic is used for depth measurement to give the pictures a nice bokeh effect - surprising that it's found on this model since this is normally the reserve of more pricey models only.

That said, since the main camera has an 8x digital zoom function, some users may miss an optical image stabiliser.

Galaxy A70 - The Foned Verdict

Samsung manages to just about find the right balance between affordability and features. However, Samsung’s contentious market saturation presents a potential stumbling block.

The A70 is already having to compete with five other Galaxy A-branded phones at the moment, while also facing stiff competition from other smartphone makers. The Huawei P30 would probably be our first choice, then the A70 after it, if we were looking for a mid-range phone not by Apple.
