Galaxy A51 4G Contract Deals – How To Find Them

Samsung Galaxy A51

Great display, decent equipment and an affordable price well under £300. With this recipe, the Samsung Galaxy A50 blossomed into one of Samsung’s bestsellers in 2019. And now at the beginning of January 2020, the manufacturer has released its successor: the Galaxy A51. Does it have what it takes to be the next successful model in Samsung's Galaxy A series?

Samsung Galaxy A51 - More display

At first glance, the Galaxy A51 stands out. The screen has grown compared to the Galaxy A50, not only in the diagonal (from 6.4 to 6.5 inches), but also in the usable area. Because instead of a notch being removed from the usable screen, the front camera is housed in a tiny hole at the top of the screen, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S10. This design is called Samsung Infinity-O-Display. The resolution has remained roughly the same (Full HD + with 1080x2340 pixels), a high-contrast Super-AMOLED is still used. This technology ensures strong colours and impressive contrasts - and a great impression in the practical test, like the screen of the predecessor. Compared to top models like the Galaxy S10, the display frames are still thick, but the design looks more modern without the old-fashioned camera notch.

Galaxy A51: Quadruple camera with macro & 48MP

A quadruple camera is installed on the back of the smartphone, whose resolution is significantly higher than that of the A50: The main camera works with a 48 megapixel / MP sensor (A50: 25 MP), but the aperture is weaker (f2.0 instead of f1.7 on the A50). However, in low light, the 48 MP sensor combines four MP each to exploit this more, so that an optimised 12 MP photo comes out. In the dark, the quality may turn out to be better than the A50 despite the weaker aperture. In the practical test, the camera made a positive impression when the lighting was good, but when there was insufficient light, noise could be seen on the images.

The ultra wide camera, which works with 8 MP in the A50, now uses 12 MP in the A51. We can only hope that the photo quality of the corresponding photos has increased, because the camera on the A50 wasn’t really that great when compared to that of the Galaxy S10. The fourth camera is new: For the first time, as in the Samsung Galaxy A71, a macro camera is used. It has a resolution of 5 MP. The possibilities of the macro mode were appealing in the practical test; they are probably fun, especially when shooting nature. However, you should ensure proper lighting, since photos in dim rooms can be prone to showing strong noise.

Samsung Galaxy A51: CPU, RAM, memory

The Galaxy A51 is available internationally in three memory variants: with either 4, 6 or 8 gigabytes (GB) of working memory (RAM) and 64 or 128 GB of device memory. Samsung chose the in-house Exynos 9611 (A50: Exynos 9610) as the processor, which is also in the Samsung Galaxy M30s. When it comes to speed, the A51 won’t set any world records, but the pace is consistently good all of the time. The 4,000mAh battery is about average for a phone in this league. Fast charging is also possible via USB-C is on phone.

Samsung Galaxy A51 ReverseSamsung Galaxy A51: price, release and colours

The Galaxy A51 with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage has been available since mid-January 2020, at a price hovering around the £350 mark. It’s available in there colours - black, white and blue.

The Galaxy A51 is quite expensive as it’s fairly new to the market. However as soon as the price reaches the £300 mark (which it should do in a few months’ time), it is probably on the right lines to become a bestselling smartphone. And rightly so - the design has been optimised, the display has grown slightly, and it’s generally a decent improvement on its predecessor. It remains to be seen whether the camera is convincing enough, but it’s still a good camera nonetheless.

The general speed could be improved, so if that’s important to you then you may be better off looking at the Samsung Galaxy A71. If that’s too big and expensive, take a look at the predecessor Samsung Galaxy A50, which can be had for about £230 now.
